Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
