The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
