Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
- Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
