Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD shared video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
