Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
