The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
